New Orleans to Take Down Confederate Monuments

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decided that New Orleans can finally remove the confederate monuments around the city. This has been an ongoing issue for some time now. I remember in high school discussing the cost of taking these down and the effects these monuments have around the city. I understand why people live/swear by these monuments and the confederate flag. It represents history. Its represents a culture, ancestry, history of a what makes the south The South.

Unfortunately, that history and culture did not pan out too well for some other people. Understand that when I see that flag, I know that I am un-welcomed/ not wanted. I see that history in the flag/monuments and it’s a reminder of what may have been a happy time for some people, yet a time of heartbreak, terror, and complete humiliation for others. The monuments represent a divisive time in the city’s history. New Orleans is not that city any more. We don’t need that reminder.
